Announcement of Eligible Applicants for
the Fixed Services Licenses

The
Board of Directors of the Communications and Informa- tion
Technology Commission (CITC), chaired by His Excellency the
Minister of Communications and Informa- tion Technology and Chairm- an of the CITC Board Eng. Mohamed Jamil Mulla,
appro- ved today Sunday
27/03/1428H (15/04/2007G) the list of
eligible applicants for the Fixed Services Licenses in the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). His Excellency the Governor
of CITC Dr. Mohammed Al Suwaiyel indicated that the CITC has
concluded the evaluation of all Applications submitted on
20/02/1428 H (10/03/2007G) in response to the Fixed Request
for Applications (Fixed RFA) document dated 21/09/1427H
(14/10/06G). And after the CITC Board of Directors has
reviewed the evaluation results, the Board has decided to
qualify three (3) of the ten (10) Applications. The
qualified applicants are listed below (in the order of the
time of application submission):
Optical Communication Company Consortium (MCI
International / Verizon- USA)
Al-Mutakamilah Consortioum (PCCW
- Hong Kong)
Atheeb Consortioum (Batelco - Bahrain)
The
Governor of CITC indicated that in accordance with the
process detailed in the Fixed RFA, the next phase will
consist of opening the single sealed bid forms of each of
the qualified applicants who applied for spectrum at a
public opening ceremony to be held at 10.00 AM on Saturday
04/04/1428H (21/5/2007) at the CITC headquarters building in
Riyadh. The public opening ceremony will be attended by
representatives of the qualified applicants. After that, the
spectrum assignment process will be initiated in accordance
with the method detailed in the RFA. The results of CITC’s
evaluation will be submitted to the Board of Directors and
subsequently to the Council of Ministers in accordance with
CITC statutes.
The Governor of the CITC, Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwaiyel thanked
all the Applicants and appreciated their efforts and
contribution to CITC. He wished success to all for this
important phase of the liberalization of the ICT sector in
the KSA.
